Treasure of the Palace: The Sultan's Flat Ewer

The flat ewer used in the Ottoman palaces was not just a part of daily life but also a piece with deep historical and spiritual value. This special ewer was used to meet the personal hygiene needs of the Sultans and palace members while also standing out as a symbol that highlighted the palace's splendor and wealth during important ceremonies and guest receptions.

Manufacturing Process and Material

This ewer is crafted entirely by hand through hammer blows applied with sheer physical strength after softening the copper material by annealing. Each detail comes to life thanks to the masters' long years of experience and skills. On both sides of the ewer, precious ruby and emerald stones are mounted within specially crafted settings. These stones not only add aesthetic value but also imbue the ewer with mystical and symbolic meaning, transforming it into a piece of art.

Surface Treatments and Decorations

The entire ewer is plated with 24-karat gold using the tombak method, commonly used during the Ottoman period. This plating gives the ewer a dazzling shine and protects it from external factors. At the tip of the ewer's spout, there is a dragon head symbolizing power. This detail shows that the ewer is not just a functional item but also a piece of art with symbolic meanings.

The base of the ewer is adorned with openwork (ajur) engraving, with floral patterns crafted by hand. These patterns are examples of the elegant and detailed craftsmanship of Ottoman art. Each motif reflects the cultural and artistic richness of the period.

Artistic and Historical Value

The ability to flatten and shape this ewer is possible only through the skills of a select few masters. Today, even its replica is considered a highly valuable rare artifact. Each ewer is a piece of art that brings the rich cultural heritage and grandeur of the Ottoman palaces to the present day.

Cultural and Spiritual Value

This ewer stands out not only for its functionality but also for its historical and spiritual values. Reflecting the rich cultural heritage and artistic understanding of the Ottoman period, this piece is considered an artistic product of golden value. Such a special and elegant ewer is valuable enough to be gifted only to very special individuals and positions. The flat ewer used in the Ottoman palaces demonstrates its craftsmanship and meticulous detail as a cultural treasure carried from the past to the present.

This ewer, with its historical connections and artistic perfection, continues to exist as a cultural treasure, conveying the grandeur and profound spiritual sentiments of the Ottoman Empire to contemporary people.

Special Production

One of the most unique aspects of this ewer is that only a single piece has been produced.
